It turns out that the fourth and fifth "X-Men" films are both in development as I type this post. AWESOME! While in an interview with Empire Magazine (Mays issue with "X-Men: First Class" spread), producer Lauren Shuler Donner announced that the treatment for "X-Men 4" has been handed into Fox and they love it. She also said that the story for the fourth film will eventually lead to a fifth film.
The fourth film is to start off where 2006's "X-Men: The Last Stand" finished. It's gonna reunite all of the cast from the previous films, well, the one's who survived the events of the third film. Obviously the making of these film's will kinda depend on how well the franchise's prequel, "X-Men: First Class" will do when it's released this summer.
Now Marvel and Fox could have a nice wee thing going on with the release of the new "X-Men" films. One year could have a prequel, "X-Men: First Class", then 2012 will have "The Wolverine", then 2013 could go back to present day with, "X-Men 4" and have the planned "Deadpool" spin-off film. Then around 2014ish, it could be "X-Men: First Class II" (seeing as Donner said that the first film is made up to begin a new trilogy". 2014/15 could also see the "X-Men 5" film and then 2015/16ish could either see "The Wolverine II" or even the final "X-Men: First Class III" film. Not a bad plan.
