The 50th Anniversary of Star Trek is almost upon us, and what other way to celebrate it, than with a new Star Trek film, Star Trek - Beyond.
Beyond is the latest instalment in the rebooted JJ Abrams helmed universe, although, he isn't directing this time round, only producing, due to his commitments with Star Wars - The Force Awakens, when both were filming at the same time.
ST-B is said to have some nice wee nods to celebrate the franchises big 50th and will also honour the great Leonard Nimoy, who sadly passed away last year. Some are hoping for a cameo from some of the older cast members, William Shatner is fav to return. The film brings back cast members, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg (also co-writting the movie), Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, and new cast members, such as Idris Elba, playing the new lead villainess alien, Krall, and Sofia Boutella as Taylah (pictured below).
Fast & Furious director, Justin Lin, takes the helm this time round. Some people are happy with that and some aren't, having seen the first trailer for the new 2016 sequel. I for one loved the look of the film in the first trailer, it was fast-paced, action-packed, and an all round Star Trek film of the new generation!!! Today, a second trailer has been released and it has a more traditional Trekkie feel to it, which I think more fans will enjoy. Maybe the first trailer was a tad bit too action-packed for some peoples liking, a bit too Star Trek III - Fast And Furious-ish?
Anyway, have a look and see for yourself, but I think THIS could be the best Star Trek film to date and here's hoping, it's successful enough to carry on and before we know it, we could be sitting watch a Star Trek IV and Star Trek V.

2017......To Boldy Go Where No Man (Or Woman) Has Gone Before!
STAR TREK! STAR TREK! STAAAAARRRR TRRREKKKK!!! Star Trek IS finally coming back to the small screens, well, it's set to premiere on CBS's All Access online network FIRST and then at some point make it's way to our regular television screens.
Right now, as we speak, this Bryan Fuller helmed CBS 2017 reboot series is called STAR TREK, pretty original (JOKES), seeing as JJ Abrams already called his 2009 reboot that. I do hope that it gets given a subtitle at least, something like Star Trek - Galaxies or even Star Trek - Galaxies Unknown or whatever, just something WITH the Star Trek title.
The 2017 series is said to be set somewhere between the final Captain Kirk film, Star Trek VI - The Undiscovered Country, and the first series of Star Trek - The Next Generation, and will feature a whole new crew, new villains and new worlds, as said in the teaser trailer that was released online last night (link below).
This could be an exciting new step back to the small screens for this long running sci-fi series, that this year, celebrates it's 50th anniversary with Star Trek - Beyond, hitting the big screen on July 22nd. Beyond is the third instalment in the Abrams rebooted universe, that follows the younger lives of Kirk, Spock, Bones, etc.
Anyways, a new crew for this 2017 series, means new and possibly exciting cast.......hopefully they pick some well known actors and not just a bunch of new unknown people. They'll need someone pretty famous to fill the role of the Captain at least!!!

Star Trek 3 - On Set Pics!
The first set pics from the 2016 Justin Lin helmed Star Trek sequel, Star Trek - Beyond, have leaked online with a first look at Sofia Boutella's unknown alien character and a first look at the new Starfleet uniforms. Boutella looks awesome, the new uniform is smart looking although Simon Pegg is spotted wearing the classic red shirt. Could the suit that Chris Pine's Captain Kirk is wearing be for Captain and Senior Officers only? I just can't wait to see what kind of villain Brit "Luther" actor, Idris Elba will be portraying in the 2016 highly-anticipated sequel, that celebrates the franchises 50th anniversary.
We can assume that classic Captain Kirk, William Shatner will be present in some sort of a way along with his original crew, minus original Bones McCoy, DeForest Kelley, who sadly passed away in the early 90's, original Scotty, James Doohan, who passed away in 2005 and the late great Leonard Nimoy aka Mr Spock, who passed away earlier this year.
There's no news as of yet if any of the rest of the cast and signed on or even decided to come back, then again, this quick contract renewal has not yet been confirmed either so take everything with a pinch of salt until Paramount confirm their future plans sometimes within the next year or so.

CONTRACTS RENEWED FOR A STAR TREK IV?
On other Star Trek related news, during the month of July this year, Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto have reportedly signed on for a fourth film in the rebooted franchise. They have both been given $6 million each for an option to star in a third sequel, should the third film in the franchise be a success. There's no news as of yet if any of the rest of the cast and signed on or even decided to come back, then again, this quick contract renewal has not yet been confirmed either so take everything with a pinch of salt until Paramount confirm their future plans sometimes within the next year or so.
